Madness: The King is Crowned

Madness:

The King is Crowned

Dear reader, this short blog post could be even shorter. It could be just one word: Heartbroken. My Houston Cougars were three points away from being crowned the Champions of the college basketball world. But heartbreak is the modus operandi of March Madness, and every fan outside of Florida is feeling the effects of the Madness.

You see, dear reader, time is a flat circle. In 1983, my parents watched the University of Houston lose by two to the North Carolina State Wolfpack. 42 years later, my parents watched the University of Houston lose to the Florida Gators by two points - and guess what? Next year, we’re all going to gather around the TV and probably get our hearts broken again. It’s just basic probability - there can only be one winner each year - most fans of College Basketball are unhappy by this time of year, but we all tune in year in and year out. Why? Well, the excitement of winning and the pain of losing are what make up the wonderful tapestry of March Madness.

Pity party aside, my hat goes off to the Florida Gators. They had, in my opinion, the most clutch run to the championship I have ever seen. They were down by ten points to Texas Tech, nine to Auburn, and twelve to Houston - and they overcame all of those deficits to become champions. They are a fantastic team and they had a hard fought win. The Cougars definitely made some mistakes, and the Gators snapped their jaws down and took advantage. Congratulations, Gator Fans, you are the only ones enjoying March this year.

However heavy my heart is this week, I know deep down that next March I will still say the same thing I always do:

Go, Coogs, Go!

Walker’s Weekly Wrecommendations

Each week I’m gonna review and recommend random things - TV shows, music, or a restaurant. IDK. Whatever I feel like. This is my blog.

This week's Triple W is Conan O’Brien’s podcast, “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend”. Hosted by longtime late night talk show host and recent Mark Twain Prize recipient, Conan O’Brien, each episode of CONAF is an hour of delightful back and forth between O’Brien and his guest. Timothy Olyphant, Jeff Goldblum, and John Mulaney are among the numerous wonderful guests who stop by to commiserate with Conan and the show makes you feel like you are part of a conversation between old friends. I listen to it on Spotify, but I’m sure it’s on other platforms.
